‘Laughter is the best medicine’, the old adage goes – and they didn’t make it up. The benefits of laughter have been well documented by scientists in recent years– laughing produces endorphins, which are natural painkillers and mood boosters.
It is a tonic for the body and mind, making us feel happier and lowering our stress levels. But there is more than a physical benefit to laughter. There is a reason why a baby’s first smile is so treasured. Whether we are with family, friends, or even strangers, finding something mutually funny is one of the most enjoyable connections we can make with another person.
Laughter is a uniquely human expression, an international language and, according to the late English writer Peter Ustinov, “the most civilised music in the world”. We hope this collection of images brings a smile to your face!
