Paper Choices & Archival Ink

It’s all about the paper!

We’re biased of course, but we truly believe that fine art printing produces an album of outstanding beauty. We have nothing against silver halide prints – they look just fine – but, a fine art print on beautiful matte paper is in our opinion, in a different league. We’re passionate about it.

We have sourced two fabulous papers from you to choose from. Read on for more information.

Art White

Art White is a bright, white paper that reproduces a dazzling spectrum of colours to give images instant vivacity.

Art Cotton

Art Cotton is 100% cotton rag with a gentle texture. A slightly warmer white, it’s got museum-worthy archival qualities and gives razor sharp image definition that will stand the test of time.

Album Page Thickness

To achieve a lay-flat album we bond each spread back to back. Each page therefore becomes double thickness and is approximately 1mm thick. The result is a page turn which is firm yet supple.

We’ve been asked to stick card in-between each page but to be honest, we didn’t like the result. The beauty of a fine art album is in the paper and we believe ‘stiff’ cardboard pages compromised the feel of the fine art paper. We hope you agree.

Archival Inks

We create your album using the latest high-end inkjet printers and pigment inks to produce images with a large colour gamut and fantastic clarity. Don’t take our word for it, registering with us and order a free test print through the store.

We run a fully colour calibrated workflow and by using the latest technologies we ensure colour consistency for each print.

Compare to silver halide prints, our system creates less wastage and doesn’t require nasty chemicals for developing. Furthermore, unlike silver halide our prints do not crack or discolour along the crease – in fact the crease is almost invisible.

Weʼve invested a lot of time and money in research and development to select the best combination of paper and ink. We’ve optimised our printer profiles to maximise colour reproduction whilst managing the amount of ink placed on a page.

We place padding sheets in between each page to protect the prints during manufacture and while the ink ʻgases offʼ. Once you’ve received your album, simply remove the padding sheets and reuse as scrap paper or as a homemade notepad.
